SMS4Aviation, LLC specializes in SMS implementation and management services for small to medium sized Part's 91, 135, 139, and 145 operators and provides options 1-3 listed below:

  1. Self-Implementation Program, (SIP)— This option provides manuals, imp. plans, step by step guidance and phone support, ideal if you have some SMS experience, ($3,000.)
  2. Outsource (End to End)—For staff limited operator with little or no SMS experience. Cheaper than an in-house effort and results in compliant- conforming program, (Plan on $6k to $18k, 30-90-days).
  3. Collaborative Mgmt. Program— Remotely  Guided SMS implementation and continuous program management using experienced third-party. Cheapest and most effective option, ($6,000 to $8,000, 30-days).
  4. Web based/Software- This is not considered an implementation, but can provide the tools, forms and guidance if you have the staff to run it, (Monthly charges are dependent on size of operation but typically $600 to $1,000 per month).

And, for the record, when you hire SMS4Aviation, you work directly with me— not a junior consultant or account manager.

By the way, the FAA Knows how Long it Takes...

From the Part 139 airport pilot program, the FAA learned that it can take an inexperienced group up to 1340 hours to get the SMS to the starting line. The starting line means you've got your framework in place, key safety positions assigned and trained, reporting platform established and you're ready to start collecting and analyzing safety data.

I started my aviation career as an A&P mechanic in 1978, then added my pilot licenses and ratings along the way, eventually flying commercially for the next 25 years. I started my aviation career as an A&P mechanic in 1978, then added my pilot licenses and ratings along the way, eventually flying commercially for the next 25 years. In 2006 I had the chance to start my own consulting business providing SMS implementations to corporate and air taxi flight departments. If you're wondering where I got my SMS experience and training, pure luck explains it.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, my brother-in-law owned (and still does), a business providing Quality Management Systems and other management systems such as environmental and safety management programs to fortune 500 companies. He also does OSHA audits and uses highly specialized testing equipment that measures sound, heat, voltage and who knows what else the EPA needs.

I spent 2004 to 2006 learning everything I could about SMS from a true expert, which positioned my new company to become one of the few organizations with both aviation and SMS experience. The rest is history.

Finally, the Most Common Question I've  gotten for the past 20 years and it's a fair question, so let me answer it right now.

Why are you so much cheaper than everybody else we've talked to?

In hindsight, I obviously didn't charge enough but the real answer is, I operate with very low overhead. I work directly with clients, use virtual technology extensively, and have a ton of hands-on SMS experience. Because I was a mechanic and pilot, I know how corporate aviation works. When I need additional support for larger projects, I bring in specialized subject-matter expertise with a single call.

You aren't paying for layers of office space, management, administrators, junior consultants, or unnecessary corporate overhead. And, you're not paying for my learning curve.
